Shraddha Kapoor’s movie rakes in more from the box office than Shah Rukh Khan’s movie Pathaan did.

Just a day after the Hindi remake of Amar Kaushik’s terrifying comedy Stree 2 overtook the original Baahubali 2: The Conclusion directed by SS Rajamouli in 2017, directed by Kapoor and Rao, the movie has outsold Siddharth Anand’s espionage movie Pathaan to secure the position of the second most lucrative Hindi film in the country, according to Sacnilk. Pathaan, which came out a year prior, featured Shah Rukh Khan in the leading role.

The second stream achieved a domestic box office total of ₹516.25 crore nett over the weekend, going beyond the net earnings of the Hindi version of Baahubali 2, and securing the third spot for highest-grossing Hindi movies in India. It trailed only two RK Khan movies from 2019 – Jawan, an action-thriller from Atlee, and Pathaan.

On the same day, Stree 2 upped its tally by an additional ₹10 crore, in line with preliminary forecasts, raising its net revenues to approximately ₹527 crore. This marks an achievement over the English version of Pathaan, which stands at ₹524.53 crore. The film has achieved the rank of the second highest-grossing in Hindi-speaking territories. Nonetheless, to clinch the coveted initial position, it still has a significant distance to travel. The worldwide box office earnings for the Hindi version of Jawan amount to ₹582.31 crore.

The second film from the company has been experiencing a long stretch without any rivals at the theaters. Kangana Ranaut’s first solo directing effort, the political suspense thriller Emergency featuring her in the main role, was postponed from its original release date of September 6 following the Central Board of Film Certification’s decision to put a halt to its certification due to several appeals.

Nonetheless, Stree 2 will encounter new rivals starting this Friday, September 13, from Hansal Mehta’s gripping detective fiction The Buckingham Murders, featuring Kareena Kapoor.

2 Stree serves as the follow-up to Dinesh Vijan’s 2018 film, Stree, which laid the foundation for his horror comedy movie world. The sequel also includes Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Tamannaah Bhatia, among others. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and is crafted by Niren Bhatt. It premiered in theaters on August 14.
