The iPhone 16 Pro Max surpasses all rivals in a rigorous robotic battery endurance test.

The latest iPhone 16 Pro Max is still making news, as Apple has once again proven to have the top performance and the longest battery life in smartphones this year.

During PhoneBuff’s evaluation, the Pro Max 16 competed directly with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in a series of app feature tests, all operated by a robotic arm. The iPhone managed to endure for a grand total of 28 hours and 14 minutes; achieving over 12 hours of continuous screen display and 16 hours of in standby mode. This impressive battery performance established a new benchmark, surpassing all other smartphones PhoneBuff has reviewed.

In contrast, the S24 Ultra secured an impressive 27 hours and 18 minutes, even though it succumbed to power-off one hour sooner than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, which came before, completed the task for 27 hours and 45 minutes, back when it was put through its paces a year back on iOS 17.

This year’s PhoneBuff evaluation also included slightly more challenging tasks, involving additional simulated Instagram scrolling and app navigation compared to previous years.

PhoneBuff employs a computer-controlled robotic limb to accurately replicate interactions on one device to another, achieving one of the most authentic simulated battery endurance tests available.

Instead of merely replaying videos endlessly or continuously switching between websites until the battery runs out, the PhoneBuff evaluation covers the full range of capabilities a smartphone offers. This encompasses messaging, checking and sorting emails, exploring the internet, swiping through social media platforms, viewing YouTube videos, playing video games, listening to music on demand, utilizing Google Maps, and more.
