IIT Kanpur is organizing the 3rd BIS – Academia Workshop focusing on “Technical Innovations in Powder Metallurgical Processes”.

The Advanced Centre for Materials Science at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kanpur, in partnership with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Indian Institute of Metals, along with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Academia Workshop, organized a session titled ‘Technical Progress and the Importance of Standards in Powder Metallurgical Processes and Products’. This event took place at the Advanced Centre for Materials Science.

Attendees included professionals from the sector, scholars, and investigators who participated in talks on the newest progress and the essential importance of consistency in powder metallurgy.

Dr. Anish Upadhyaya, the Chief of ACMS at IIT Kanpur, delivered the opening speech. He also took on the role of leading the workshop.

Kantesh Balani, who leads the Materials Science and Engineering Department, and Prof AK Singh, in charge of the TechnoPark at IIT Kanpur, spoke to the attendees and highlighted the significance of ongoing innovation and compliance with standards in progressing the domain of powder metallurgy.

Swagat Bhandari, who is in charge of the recently launched Translational Research Initiative at IIT Kanpur, explained the methods for coordinating efforts to smoothly transition from the research or prototype phase to its implementation in industry and production.

The announcement came from IIT Kanpur that this morning’s event included thought-provoking talks by experts from major companies.

The participants were Mahesh Nipanikar, the head of technical services at Hoganas India, V. Sadafal, and S. Biradar, who serve as deputy general managers at Emitec Technologies India Pvt Ltd., alongside Rajesh Bhatia, the president of RVB Shorelube Industry Pvt. Ltd.

Subsequently, attendees were taken on a tour of the ACMS facilities, providing them with an opportunity to gain insight into the advanced research activities happening at IIT Kanpur, as reported.

Conversely, during the afternoon, the 21st Technical Meeting of the Sectional Committee (MTD25) on Powder Metallurgical Materials and Products took place.

Consequently, six technical lectures took place in the evening, attracting more than 70 students, staff, and faculty attendees.

Dr. G. Ram Sai Kumar, an expert in science and the Deputy Director of the Metallurgical Engineering Division at the Bureau of Indian Standards, kicked off the event by delivering a talk on the “Importance of BIS and Standards in Powder Metallurgy.”

He highlighted the need for uniformity to ensure consistent quality and to foster advancements in powder metallurgy.

Dr. Mayadhar Debata, a senior principal scientist at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (IMMT), Bhubaneswar, delivered a presentation on the “Creation of Non-Ferrous Alloys Using Powder Metallurgy” with emphasis on its strategic uses.

Additional participants in the session comprised Dr. Pradyut Sengupta (a Senior Scientist at CSIR-IMMT), Dr. Gururaj Telasang (a Scientist E under the ARCI Hyderabad), Dr. Deepak Pattanayak (the Principal Scientist at CSIR-CECRI), Prof. Anish Upadhyaya (a Professor from IIT Kanpur), and Anshu Bhatia (the Managing Director at Camstar Defense India Pvt Ltd).
